Spoleto, splendid Roman city, flourishing Lombard duchy, important centre of the Papal state, still has for the most part an ancient appearance. To the most ancient origins of Spoleto belong the Druso arch from 23 B.C., the Roman theatre and the early Christian basilica of San Salvatore. The church of St. Peter is of great interest for its bas-relief which adorns the 13th century facade. From the front of St. Peter’s  there is a wonderful view of the whole of Spoleto up to the mighty and magnificent Ponte delle Torri bridge which connects to the Rocca, dominating the city from the Sant’Elia hill, and to Monteluco, starting point of many pathways through the woods and the natural landscape. There are many beautiful churches in Roman and gothic style, among them the cathedral and the churches of San Gregorio and San Domenico.
It is a city of art and culture with the Teatro Nazionale Sperimentale, the Italian Study Centre for the early Middle Ages, the Festival dei Due Mondi, one of the most prestigious  world-renowned festivals of theatre, music and drama and the Intenational Week of Dance.
An enchanting city, moving and embracing, Spoleto should also be seen and enjoyed for the natural landscapes that surround it.
The area of Spoleto comprises the following municipalities of the Perugia province: Campello sul Clitunno, Castel Ritaldi, Giano dell'Umbria, Spoleto.
