In the area of Perugia we include, together with the municipality of Perugia, those of Corciano, Deruta, Torgiano and Valfabbrica.
Perugia, chief town of Umbria region, is one of the best preserved cities of Italy, where the great history of the city is still visible in its streets and buildings. The Etruscan Arch, the underground city of the Rocca Paolina, the Palace of the Priori, the Etruscan Well and the Great Fountain are just some of the historic architectural works to be visited. Perugia is also a university city, which is able to offer various entertainment and events: music and concerts of all types, not just Umbria Jazz!, and great culinary traditions in addition to the Eurochocolate Festival.
At only 10 km from Perugia, Corciano, a typical mediaeval castle must not be missed: numerous churches and palaces, nature, art, good food and wine in one of the “Borghi più Belli” – most beautiful small towns of Italy.
Deruta has been the town of ceramic art since the Middle Ages. Hundreds of workshops can be found in the town today where the artisan carries on the tradition. There is also the Regional Museum of Ceramics to visit.
Torgiano is a must if you want to know about the traditions of wine and oil. Here, midway along the Strada del Vino del Cantico, there is the Wine Museum and the Museum of Olives And Olive Oil.
Valfabbrica is found between Assisi , Perugia and Gubbio on the Franciscan Path of Peace. A place of peace where one can retrace the path St. Francis took, past woods and abbeys, to reach Gubbio from Assisi.
