Orvieto is a magical city which radiates the atmosphere and strength of three thousand years of history. A city of Etruscan origin, Orvieto rises from an impressive tufo rock and preserves almost completely its structure of a mediaeval town. One day is not sufficient to admire, see and visit all of its monuments, palaces, towers, churches, museums , the renaissance frescoes by Luca Signorelli in the cathedral chapel, the famous Saint Patrick’s well, the underground city, the Etruscan tombs and the archaeological park.. There are many cultural, artistic, musical and gastronomic events, beginning with the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival for Christmas and the New Year.
Around Orvieto there are many delightful little towns to visit. From Orvieto a visit to Civitella di Bagnoregio is recommended . This small town, to be found just across the border in Lazio but still very near to Orvieto and often referred to as the “the dying town”, is isolated and reached only by a narrow footbridge recently constructed in reinforced concrete - and for this reason, still preserves its mediaeval aspect.
The Orvieto area comprises the following municipalities of Terni Province: Montegabbione, Monteleone di Orvieto, Parrano, Fabro, Ficulle, Allerona, Castel Viscardo, Castelgiorgio, Porano, Montecchio, Baschi, Orvieto.
