Foligno Area

Testo alternativo

Territory known as the “Rose of Umbria” comprises the plain of the Umbrian Valley, the soft  rolling hillsides and the buttress of the Apennine  backbone. The main centre of the district is Foligno, ancient Umbrian  and then Roman town.  There is much to see at Foligno: the cathedral, the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Trinci, museums and churches.
The Foligno plain is surrounded by a circle of small towns, dominated by  the growing of olives and vines:
Montefalco, D’Annunzio’s “silent town” where wine tasting is a must;
Bevagna, where within its circular walls  between narrow alleyways and squares, it is still possible to find crafts of the artisan traditions;
Trevi, immersed in the olives, offers breath-taking panoramas and remarkable buildings from the Roman period and the renaissance;
beautiful Spello, resting on the slopes of Monte Subasio, with its “Infiorata” where the streets are dressed in impressive , perfumed floral designs for the Corpus Domini celebrations;
Gualdo Cattaneo, with its Rocca and medaeival castles; Valtopina, with its roman remains and ancient castle walls; Sellano and the enchanting Valley of the Vigi;
Nocera Umbra, situated on top of a rocky spur, preserves its historical charm, not to mention the quality of its water renowned throughout time.
The Foligno area comprises the following municipalities of Perugia Province: Nocera Umbra, Valtopina, Spello, Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Montefalco, Foligno, Trevi, Sellano.
