One place to visit is Narni, whose monuments still bear witness to its splendour during the renaissance: the Romanic cathedral, in which works by Rossellino can be found, St. Francis’ church from the 13th century, Palazzo dei Priori in the square of the same name where you can also find the Palazzo Comunale , built at the end of the 13th century with the joining together of three towers and the gardens of St. Bernard, from where one can admire views of the splendid valley of the river Nera.
Near to Narni, the small town of Amelia, surrounded by its polygonal walls should not be missed: the four gates of the town which all lead to the Croce del Borgo, the church of St. Francis and the old convent, today the home of the Municipal art gallery and Archeological Museum, ancient palaces and the “Torre Civica” tower. From Amelia one can enjoy a vast panorama of the Rio Grande valley and the 13th century dam known as “La Para”.
In this area it’s possible to enjoy the surroundings in their original uncontaminated state, walking through woods or following roads and routes still laden with history: small medaeival towns, castles and parks.
