The most important centre of the Valdinievole, Montecatini is famous not only as a spa but also for its history, where it played an important role in the wars between the Guelfs and Ghibellines in the 14th century, the construction of the first thermal baths in 1530, the wars between Florence and Siena in the second half of the 16th century, finally becoming one of the most prestigious spas at the end of the 19th century, visited by the famous – Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Trilussa, Beniamino Gigli and Luigi Pirandello.


This area comprises the municipalities of the province of Pistoia , with the exception of  those in the area of Abetone and Pistoia: Buggiano, Chiesina Uzzanese, Lamporecchio, Larciano, Massa e Cozzile, Monsummano Terme, Montecatini Terme, Pescia, Pieve a Nievole, Ponte Buggianese, Uzzano.
