Grosseto Area

Testo alternativo

Sea, hills, mediaeval villages: the area around Grosseto offers a wide choice for holidays and recreation.

Grosseto, the main city of the Maremma, still has its 14th century city walls intact, just like the city of Lucca. There are also many historic monuments, churches and palaces to visit.

Outside the city there are many nature reserves such as the Parco Naturale della Maremma, the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve, the Cetacean Sanctuary, and the National park of the Tuscan Archipelago, of which the Islands known as the Formiche di Grosseto are a part. There are also many coastal towns with their beaches and bathing facilities such as Follonica, Marina di Grosseto, Punta Ala and Castiglione della Pescaia; mediaeval villages such as Pitigliano, whose ancient charm should not be overlooked; the Saturnia spa with sulphurous waters at Manciano; and not forgetting the incomparable island of Giglio.

The municipalities included in this area are all those of Grosseto province, with the exception of those included in the Amiata areaCampagnatico, Capalbio, Castiglion della Pescaia, Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Follonica, Gavorrano, Grosseto, Isola del Giglio, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Massa Marittima, Monte Argentario, Monterotondo Marittimo, Montieri, Orbetello, Pitigliano, Roccastrada, Scansano, Scarlino, Sorano.
