The "Santa Maria inter Angelos" monastery was constructed just outside of Spoleto in 1229 as a convent for a small community of Clarisse nuns from San Damiano (Assisi). Members of the order lived there for some 200 years.
Many centuries after its construction, and after a long recovery process conducted with respect for its many original details, the monastery has returned to its ancient and austere glory.
It now offers 12 spacious guest rooms, a conference hall, restaurant and ample outdoor space, including the ancient wash-house used by the monastery. Its position with views over Spoleto, just three kilometers away, remains truly panoramic and an ancient footpath called Giro dei Condottieri leads from the convent to the city.
The main objective of the S. Maria inter Angelos Monastery restoration project is to give it back its function as a servant of the people and the community.
The convent is the ideal place to stay to recover one's spiritual balance in close contact with nature. The hospitality offered is also aimed at those in need of special spiritual attention and social gatherings (groups on pilgrimage). Companies can use the monastery for special training sessions.
